This outstanding selection of a NATIVE prairie grass has a sturdy, rigid, upright habit and doesn't flop like the species and several other selections that we have tried over the years. It has attractive, beautifully textured blue-green foliage in summer with strong, sturdy, stiffly erect stems that begin to arrive in late summer to produce fluffy orange-red seed clusters in the Fall. The terrific Fall color (which is a GORGEOUS burgundy) usually persists well into mid and late Autumn, and is particularly eye-catching as the gently swaying stems glisten in the early morning dew or late afternoon sunlight.
Schizachyrium 'Standing Ovation' is a wonderful choice for providing vertical interest to beds and borders, foundation plantings, meadows and wildlife habitats and provides valuable shelter and sustenance to small birds and wildlife too.
